Our Why
Wes has bred dogs since childhood, starting with beagles and later choosing Labradors for their versatility. After seeing breeders misrepresent health testing, he was motivated to breed Labradors responsibly. His goal is to raise healthy, well-rounded dogs for family and hunting.
Why We Do What We Do...
Wes has been breeding dogs since he was a child, beginning with beagles. He took a break from breeding while attending college but returned a few years later. While he still appreciates beagles as family pets and for rabbit hunting, he was looking for a breed with more versatility. Having grown up around Labrador retrievers and spoken with many owners, Wes decided a Labrador retriever would be the ideal fit as a family dog, hunting companion, and participant in a variety of activities. Wes began breeding Labrador retrievers, specifically pointing Labradors, after experiencing issues with the first three puppies he purchased from well-known breeders. The breeders misrepresented or failed to complete health and genetic testing on the puppies’ parents, and could not provide documentation or verification of the results. This experience underscored the importance of transparency and proper health testing, motivating Wes to breed Labradors responsibly, with verified testing for hips, eyes, elbows, and genetics.
The Reason...
Why Genetic Testing
-
Health Assurance: Genetic testing helps identify inherited conditions, ensuring dogs are healthy and reducing the risk of passing on genetic disorders.
-
Responsible Breeding: Testing allows breeders to make informed pairing decisions, promoting strong, healthy litters.
-
Transparency & Trust: Providing verified genetic test results builds confidence with puppy buyers and demonstrates the breeder’s commitment to accountability.
Why Health Test
-
OFA Hips: Tested to ensure proper hip joint formation and reduce the risk of hip dysplasia, which can cause pain and mobility issues.
-
OFA Elbows: Evaluated to detect elbow dysplasia or other developmental issues, promoting healthy, pain-free movement.
-
OFA Eyes: Examined to identify hereditary eye conditions early, helping prevent vision problems and maintain overall eye health.
Why do Titles Matter
-
Proof of Quality: Titles demonstrate a dog’s abilities, health, and temperament, providing verifiable evidence of their excellence.
-
Breed Standards & Genetics: Titled dogs show they meet breed standards and have strong, desirable genetics.
-
Better Puppies: Breeding dogs with titles increases the likelihood of producing healthy, well-rounded puppies and assures potential owners of the breeder’s commitment to quality.
